The Walsall Supporters’ Trust wishes to commend the team on their outstanding performance in last night’s play-off semi-final victory over Chesterfield, and to express our sincere appreciation for the passionate support shown by Saddlers fans both on the night and throughout the season.

We recognise that the scenes following our second goal were, for many, a cathartic release at the end of what has been an emotional and, at times, challenging campaign. Given that only Colchester United have waited longer for promotion among the current EFL 72 clubs, it is perhaps understandable — though not condonable — that such a spontaneous outpouring of emotion occurred on what was electric night at Bescot.

Nonetheless, we must put on record our regret regarding the decision of some fans to encroach onto the field of play both before and after the final whistle. While the initial incursion may have been instinctive, it was concerning that some supporters failed to return to their seats promptly when asked. Entering the field of play during a live match is a clear breach of ground regulations and poses serious safety risks to players, officials, and fellow fans. It also leaves the club vulnerable to disciplinary action, financial penalties, and potential future restrictions — including enhanced security measures or limits on crowd attendance — all of which could have long-term implications for Walsall FC.

Of particular disappointment were the actions of a small minority who directed provocation towards Chesterfield supporters during the second encroachment after the final whistle. This behaviour is entirely at odds with the values of Walsall Football Club and the broader Saddlers community. Chesterfield were worthy and valiant opponents over two hard-fought legs, and they deserve our respect.

The Trust remains committed to promoting passionate, respectful, and responsible support. We urge all fans to channel their pride in a way that safeguards the club’s reputation and future — especially as we look ahead to a historic play-off final. Let us continue to show the unity, dignity, and loyalty that defines what it means to be a Saddler.
