Born Not Made
There’s a pride that comes with following Walsall over the years.
It’s in the faded seats on the terraces.
It’s in the names carved into the wall bricks.
It’s in the way our elders recall Fellows Park.
It’s in the accent, the stubbornness, the jokes that cut deep but always come from love.
And it’s in the football club — or at least, it should be.
When Trivela Group UK LLC took control of the club, they issued over 100,000 new shares to themselves, increasing the total shareholding more than fiftyfold. As a result, the Trust’s stake has halved from 299/50000 to 299/114385 — without us selling a single share.
The consequence? The Trust — and other small shareholders — now hold virtually no voting power. Key decisions about the club’s future can be made unilaterally by Trivela, whose ultimate owners remain undisclosed. Our ability to formally influence governance through shareholder rights has effectively been stripped away.
So here’s the truth: Walsall FC now legally belongs less to its fans than it did before 2023.
But we are the continuity. The heartbeat. The bit that stays.
With your support, we want to change that — and make sure Walsall FC always has fans at its core. Not just legally, but visibly, emotionally, and proudly.
Over the years, our club has changed hands. We’ve had good owners, distant owners, ambitious owners. But no owner stays forever — and no owner ever sees what we see when they look at this club.
We see family.
We see community.
Why 1888?
We’re launching The 1888 Campaign — a long-term effort to acquire more shares in Walsall FC and make sure part of our club always remains in the hands of the people who care about it most.
We’re already the seventh-largest shareholder in the club. That’s not a slogan — it’s a legal fact. But we also know it’s not enough.
The bigger our holding, the stronger our presence. The louder our voice. The better our chances of being there — really there — when big decisions are made. Not shouting from the outside, but speaking from within.
For us this isn’t about profit. It isn’t about ego. It’s about keeping something safe. Something passed down — from saddlers to leather workers, from mums to sons, from Wednesbury Road to the Railway End and back again.
We’re here to protect something older than Trivela. Older than any one regime. And we’re inviting more Saddlers to join us.
For the long term. For future Saddlers. For the town many of us call home.
The job ahead: Protect what matters
Let’s be clear: we’re not trying to take over. We’re trying to take care.
More shares means:
- You are part of a legacy that outlasts any owner, boardroom or CEO.
- Through the Trust, every member is a proxy shareholder — giving you:
- A stronger stake in what happens next.
- A louder voice when it matters most.
- A credible platform to hold the club to account.
Some supporters already hold shares — passed down from grandparents, bought during the Bonser years, or picked up in the last shake-up.
If you already own shares in the club — even just one or two — would you consider gifting them to the Trust? Or selling them?
Or placing them in your will, so your love for the club carries on long after you’re gone?
And when the opportunity arises — and it may — would you back us in buying more shares from the club itself, to strengthen the fan-held block and safeguard Walsall’s values through whatever comes next?
Because this isn’t about money.
It’s about memory.
And about making sure we’re always here — when others move on.
Final Word
This campaign is about more than influence.
It’s about inheritance — of spirit, identity, and purpose.
The 1888 Campaign: More Shares. Louder Voice.
Because long after the current owners have gone — we’ll still be here.
