The Walsall Supporters’ Trust notes the FA Independent Regulatory Commission’s decision of 3 September 2025concerning Jamie Jellis and historic breaches of Rule E8 (betting) between April 2019 and July 2023. The Commission imposed a five-month suspension, suspended for 12 months, and a £1,200 fine.

We respect the FA’s process and the independence of its Regulatory Commission, and we recognise the panel’s emphasis on significant mitigation: Jamie admitted the breaches at the first opportunity, has not bet on football since July 2023, cooperated fully, and expressed genuine remorse. Evidence of or inside information and then sort out.

No evidence of match fixing or inside information

The Commission’s decision and the case materials do not find evidence of match fixing. There is also no evidence that inside information was used. The single wager placed when Jamie played for King’s Langley was part of an accumulator for his own team to win.

Mitigating factors noted by the Commission

  • Historic conduct: the bets were placed 2019–July 2023; Jamie has not bet on football since July 2023.
  • Remorse and cooperation: he admitted the breachesco-operated fully, and apologised directly to the Commission.
  • Young age and context: many bets were made when he was a young player/scholar/loanee, often low-stake accumulators alongside peers.
  • No gambling addiction finding: the Commission did not find evidence of gambling addiction and noted a net financial loss, not gain.
  • Limited aggravation: 198 of 2,248 bets involved competitions his clubs were in; only 16 referenced his own club (mostly when he did not play), and only one while playing was for his team to win.

Our position

  • Accountability matters: the rules protect the integrity of the game we all love.
  • So does support: people make mistakes—especially when young. What counts now is learning, education and safeguarding so it doesn’t happen again.
  • We stand with Jamie as he meets the Commission’s conditions, including education with Sporting Chance or a similar provider.

What happens next

  • The five-month suspension is suspended for 12 months. It only activates if there is a further relevant breach during that period.
  • Jamie is fined £1,200.
  • The Trust will continue to promote education and wellbeing, working with club partners and supporter groups.
